Scholastic tapped SOS for this eLearning juggernaut.

Visual Design, Animation

With vibrant colors and bold angles, our design for this new flagship eLearning system for Scholastic Education is creating a notable buzz in the K-8 education world. SOS leveraged the existing graphic direction of the product packaging and print materials to create this fresh design for the site. In the same way that the product strives to teach the deeper layers and textures of books and literature, we devised a graphic tone that directly reflects this concept.

AMSNY.org

SOS made a house call for the Associated Medical Schools of New York.

IA, Visual Design, Tech Development

Serving sixteen public and private medical schools in New York State, this dynamic organization uses it's vast knowledge and experience to advocate for diversity in medical education, foster interest in high school students and influence state policies. We were lucky enough to be charged with remaking their hard-working web presence.

Our design is both professional and friendly. It reflects the competent manner with which they pursue their advocacy goals with a nod to the positive, personal effect they seek to have on potential young students. The simple navigation streamlines key information and quickly provides their varied audience with a clear path to time-sensitive information.

We gave special attention to readability of article subpages. Through subtle color and font choices, we ensured that longer articles would read as beautifully on screen as in print.

Each episode centers on a different topic, from Venn Diagrams to Fractions, Decimals & Percents. In addition to the main concept and visual direction, SOS built and adapted mini-games, integrated live-action video and animated characters throughout to both educate and reward young learners.

DK Kids

A transformation of DK Publishing's online book catalogue for kids.

IA, Visual Design, Development

The goal for the kiddk.com site redesign was to transform DK Publishing’s large catalogue of non-fiction books for kids into a online destination by leveraging their extensive content through an interactive medium.

The design was implemented by using practical photography and scanning real paper to give the site a striking look. It was important that the animation and transitions also moved like real paper to deliver an immersive site experience. Using paper for interface elements also offers an accessible and tactile navigation that encourages exploration.

This web site has received numerous industry accolades including Communication Arts “Site of the Week” and How Magazine’s “Top Ten of the Web” among others.
